SWPL: McDonald Reaction

AFTER a long break Rangers managed to get three points in Sunday’s game against Stirling University and put themselves into fourth.Amy McDonald was aware that the break didn’t help as it slows down the improving process, but believes it is necessary to stay focused. She said: “I think that given the break, it has been really stop and start this season. We have spoke about it in training that we need to stay really focused.“I thought we started really well and we dropped off a bit just before the end of the first half but great to get another two goals in the second half.”After involving all five players who started on the bench, McDonald believes that the substitutions strengthened the squad and helped them to work the way they wanted. She added: “It’s even better to get the goal in the end there after us making such a number of changes.“We brought the five players on; we know we have got the quality and the depth in the squad to be able to do that now so that was really positive.”McDonald highlighted the importance of the players who got on the scoresheet, praising their passion and determination. She said:“I love a Jade Gallon goal, what a celebration, such passion. I think Jade was exceptional today and it was really positive for her to get two goals.“Sarah as well, she’s had a long layoff with injuries, but she’s shown herself in training to be really capable and confident and she’s worked her way into the starting 11 which is great for us.”Rangers look to build on their winning momentum as they take on Hamilton Academical next weekend.McDonald said:“We still have to be really focused. It’s these games where we have to go in to win but we have to recognise that they have threats as well.“We go again this week, train hard and hopefully go into the game with a positive mindset next week.”
