The 22-year-old came close to joining Gers on the last day of the January transfer window before a move to Barnsley on loan, where he netted nine goals in 16 starts.
He added: “I hope there will be more opportunities for me this year.
“I had a little taste here and there under different managers last season.
“I think it was definitely the right time for me to go out on loan and get some consistent first-team football under my belt.
“But now I am fighting to impress the new manager here and I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Last month McBurnie said he had high hopes for new Gers gaffer Steven Gerrard.
He said: “As a Rangers fan, I hope Steven Gerrard goes there, turns it around and does fantastically well.
