Manchester United fans were relieved last weekend when their team managed not to lose the title to their rivals but Monaco fans weren’t so lucky and now their club have offered to reimburse any travelling fans.

United fans would have been fearing the worst last week when they were 2-0 down against City at half time and looking like it could have been total embarrassment leading to a title win for their rivals.

Of course we weren’t to know that the embarrassment was just being held off for a week and a loss to bottom of the table West Brom instead handed the title to Pep Guardiola’s side but that’s by the by.

PSG winning the Ligue 1 title back from Monaco this season was as inevitable as City’s eventual win. Monaco were never going to repeat last seasons feat even before they sold all their best players and PSG signed Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

So the last remaining hope for the southern French side was to hope they could pull off a United and delay their rivals win. Instead they crumpled to a 7-1 loss, it doesn’t get much more embarrassing. Now the club have offered to reimburse travelling away fans, tweeting:

“AS Monaco has made the decision to reimburse the Red and White supporters in the visitors stand tonight. The details will be communicated at the beginning of the week.

Things were going fine for the first 14 minutes of the game for Leonardo Jardim’s side until Lo Celso put the hosts 1-0 up and within six minutes Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria had made it 3-0.

Lo Celso made it four with his second before former Manchester City youngster Rony Lopes actually pulled one back for the away side but Di Maria, a Radamel Falcao own goal and Julian Draxler added to the misery before the game finished.

It was hardly the best way to hand back the title that Monaco had so brilliantly won the previous season before the likes of Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy and Tiémoué Bakayoko left for pastures new.

Getting their money back for Sunday night will only be some comfort to Monaco but then again at least they didn’t lose to bottom of the table at home to hand their rivals the title…
